Hi. Does anybody know when the next meeting will be? I am leaving town on Feb 18 and was hoping to come, but it might not work out.

I finished reading the book last night. I am surprised at how very RACIST it is....not the parts from the slaveholders, but the parts from HB Stowe herself. She was an abolitionist but the way she talks about black people.....if she talked that way today we would just have to give her a sheet and a cross to burn. Did it strike anybody else that way? Just shows you have to take a book in the context of the time it was written. Especially this one!

Yes, Bonnie, I must agree! The back of my edition notes that the book is considered "propaganda", but I still find so much "race generalization" in the text that I can see how the people of that day formed opinions about the races - even though they didn't personally know anyone of another race!
