Christmas Book Club Party/Meeting

Hi Ladies,
I was thinking along with talking about "Little Women" we could perhaps have a Christmas Party! Maybe do an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, bring our favorite Holiday foods and do a Gift Exchange - white elephant or maybe pick a $$ limit - like buy the coolest gift you can find for under $5.00. We could possibly do a Cookie Exchange with just our group. We would have to have commitments up front with a firm date, but there's usually about 8 of us so making 8 dozen cookies wouldn't be too bad.  Just some ideas I was thinking about and rolling around in my brain.  Let us all know your preferences, dates that might work for you, etc.

Book Selection

We will be reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott over the holidays. It is a longer book and so we may not be able to have a book group in November. Lets find a date to have a Christmas book group discussion. Or even an early January date if members are too busy over the holidays.

Dressing Up Discussion

Dracula book group discussion
Our book group discussion was super fun since we could incorporate the Halloween season into our reading. Back: Kris as Sybil Trelawny, Bailey-cheerleader/football player, Joyce is a farmer, Linda is Mrs. Molly Weasley, Sharon is female dracula, Front row: Kayleen Ti Kwan Do/fighter, Peggy Ann is Cruella De Vile, Lorraine is a red witch.
Yummy food and a Ghostly table to eat at. We dined on tacos crawling with spiders, spicy squash/corn spider web chowder, bones and blood, Apple snicker salad, veggie pizza, devilish spider eggs, speghetti squash speghetti. Not to mention the Singapore divinity- special, brownie bites and no bake cookies. Did you see the mice infestation.
Playing games.

The sisters.

Draw and guess the Halloween word.

Or act out the Halloween word.

Kneeling and drawing.

Performance art.
This is a fun book group. We enjoyed a PBS version of Dracula after all the games and eating were finished. It was interesting and not as scary as our more modern versions of horror movies.  We definitely noticed that the technology for movie making has come a long way as well as acrylic vampire fingernails. Still the movie did a fair job of staying close to the book.  Stay tuned for the next book selection.

Movie for our meeting?

I just finished reading the book. Definitely a horror story! I've researched all of the movies, & no way do I want to watch any of them! How about "Hocus Pocus" or " Practical Magic" or something? Any other suggestions? Has anyone seen "Halloweentown"? I haven't seen it, but it sounds like something I would like.

New Dracula Movie

Hey Gals,

I just saw a preview for a new Dracula movie last night that is suppose to be coming out on October 10th 'Dracula Untold'. If it comes to our city does anyone want to plan on going to it? I don't think it will be at all like the book but by the title it sounds like it could be what happened to Dracula that made him the way he was. We should invite our hubbies so we can hang on to them during the scary parts.
